San Francisco Walking Map with 5 Free Self-Guided Walks

Today I want to bring you my walking map of San Francisco. It will show you all my free self-guided walking tours in one place. SF is one of the most walkable cities in California (if you can handle the hills, anyway), and it’s a fun place to explore on foot. My walking routes lead locals and visitors around to the top spots in the city and allow people to explore famous streets and popular neighborhoods along the way. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

San Francisco Walks

My self-guided walks cover a number of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco. From places I’ve lived to ones I’ve spent many hours discovering, I recommend the areas from my own personal experiences and explorations.

From neighborhood strolls to urban hikes, I’ve walked all over San Francisco. Now I’m excited to share my map with my top picks for places to explore with you. From Pacific Heights to Russian Hill and North Beach, my walking routes will show you everything from colorful Victorian homes to stunning parks, historic mansions, sweeping views, hidden lanes, and haunted houses.

My San Francisco walking tours are ideal ways to explore like a local, see the city’s attractive side streets, stroll along the bay, and explore parts of the city residents enjoy spending time in. I hope the routes help you discover a different side of the city from the touristy one, and that you find new places to love in SF.

I plan to publish more self-guided San Francisco walks in the future, and I’ll add them to my map as I do. If you want to bookmark this blog post or pin it on Pinterest, you can use it as an easy reference for finding all my routes.

If you’re looking for a guided tour, GetYourGuide offers great ones. I’ve done excursions with them all over the world, and I’ve always had a good time. SF is no exception. From ghost tours in Nob Hill to food odysseys in North Beach, Chinatown culinary tours, and waterfront walks in Fisherman’s Wharf, there are plenty to choose from.

Tours are fun and easy ways to see the City by the Bay and dig deeper into a specific interest you have or a theme you’re passionate about.

Helpful Tips and Guidelines

Many of my San Francisco walking tours involve the city’s (in)famous hills and stairways. If you want to go on one that has a decent degree of elevation gain, make sure to wear good walking shoes (the steep sidewalks can be slippery), bring water, and go at a pace that’s comfortable for you.

The starting points of all my walks can be reached by public transport, on foot from nearby areas, or by bike or scooter. Parking can be tricky in some areas, so finding alternative means of getting to them is usually a good idea.

And as always, walk safely, obey traffic rules, and only use authorized crossing points as you go. But you knew that.
